En janvier 2020, le Département des affaires politiques et de la consolidation de la paix a créé la Cellule Innovation, une équipe interdisciplinaire qui aide le Département et ses missions à comprendre, à explorer, à mettre à l’essai et à transposer de nouvelles technologies, de nouveaux outils et de nouvelles pratiques en matière de prévention des conflits, de médiation et de consolidation de la paix. En réponse à l’appel que le Secrétaire général a lancé au système des Nations Unies pour qu’il accélère l’adoption de méthodes innovantes, la Cellule se consacre à l’innovation dans le domaine de la paix et de la sécurité et offre un forum de collaboration où les membres du personnel travaillant au Secrétariat et sur le terrain peuvent échanger sur la conception et la résolution de problèmes centrées sur l’humain.
La Cellule fait partie du Réseau d’innovation des Nations Unies (UNIN) et mobilise les énergies de partenaires extérieurs au système des Nations Unies et issus des milieux de la technologie, de la société civile et du monde universitaire autour de cas d’utilisation pour la paix et la sécurité, mettant ainsi l’innovation au service de l’objectif commun de la paix.
